The Snow Started Falling, and a Silver Kitten Pulled Up a Window Seat
Snow is drifting down over a quiet backyard, and a silver tabby kitten is sitting on the window ledge to watch it. Dark stripes run across her gray coat like pencil lines, and her little ears are turned toward the glass. A pine wreath dangles from the top of the window, the fence outside is dusted white, and a few brown leaves still peek through the snow. It is the kind of calm Christmas Eve scene that makes everybody in the house speak in whispers.
The American Shorthair is a classic, sturdy breed with a reputation for being easygoing and adaptable, and the silver tabby pattern is one of its best known looks. They often make relaxed family companions, and they usually enjoy interactive play. A kitten like this one benefits from a regular routine, so playtime and meals can stay predictable even on busy holiday days.
Holiday guests, wrapping paper and new smells can feel like a lot for a young cat. A quiet room with a bed, food and a litter box gives a kitten somewhere to retreat if the house gets noisy. Window perches are also helpful, since watching the outdoors is a calming way for a cat to spend an evening.
We will call her Flurry. She has no idea what tomorrow's presents hold, and she does not seem to mind. For the moment, the best gift is the snow itself, falling slowly past the glass.
