Guests Went Looking for Their Coats. The Havanese Was Already Wearing Them.
Somewhere in the pile of puffy jackets, wool coats and denim, a small chocolate brown Havanese named Mocha has made a nest. Only her wavy fur and a tucked-in nose are visible against the beige and olive layers. Through the doorway you can see the party table piled with fruit and dishes, but in here the room is calm, with a bit of window light on the quilt.
Dogs often seek out quiet places when a house gets noisy, and a bed full of coats is hard to beat because it smells like all their favorite people. Havanese are social, affectionate dogs, but even sociable breeds need breaks from the crowd. If your dog is retreating, it is worth giving her a peaceful room with a comfy bed, water and the door closed so nobody wanders in. Be careful with coats too, since pockets can hold gum, mints, medication or chocolate that could be harmful. Hanging guest coats up high or in a closet is a simple safety step.
Mocha is not being antisocial. She has said her hellos, enjoyed her share of attention and found the softest spot on the property. When the party winds down and the coats are claimed, she will probably wake up and wonder where her nest went. For now, she is happily lost in a mountain of warm fabric.
