One Carved Pumpkin Had Something Much Cuter Than a Candle Inside

Only the head and shoulders show, but there is no mistaking the big, bat-like ears of a tiny grey Sphynx kitten sitting inside a hollowed-out pumpkin. Bits of orange pulp and a few seeds cling to the rim, and the carved face on the front gives the pumpkin a toothy grin. Behind her, a bed with a gray blanket, a pair of slippers and a plaid shirt show that this adventure is happening indoors, right next to a bright window.

Sphynx cats have no coat to speak of, so they love warm places, and a pumpkin that has been sitting in the sun might feel just right. Their skin needs a little extra care. Because they lack fur, they get cold easily and can get sunburned, and they often need an occasional gentle wipe or bath as oils collect on the skin. Ask your vet about the best routine. Fresh pumpkin guts are not toxic in small amounts, but they can get slimy and moldy, so clean up promptly. Never place a candle inside a pumpkin when a kitten is around, and keep carving tools away from her.

Ziggy looks very proud of her new hideout, and is clearly the most wrinkled and charming pumpkin spirit in the neighborhood. We suspect she will stay inside until someone offers a better spot.
