A Tiny Explorer Stopped at the Mouth of the Hay Maze and Thought It Over
A tunnel of golden hay bales opens onto a driveway, and sitting just outside is a tiny ruddy Abyssinian kitten with big ears and a coat the color of warm cinnamon. Her head is turned to one side, her amber eyes alert, and her paws are lined up like a little soldier's. A carved jack-o'-lantern grins nearby, and a bit of loose straw is scattered across the concrete. The house lights behind her are just coming on.
Abyssinians are lively, athletic cats that adore climbing, exploring and investigating every new thing, so a hay maze is a dream for one. They are bright and playful, and often need lots of play and mental stimulation. A hay tunnel is safe for supervised play, but loose straw can be dusty and a little sharp, and a young kitten should not nibble it. Stacked bales can shift, so keep her off the high ones, and bring her inside before dark so she stays safe from traffic and chilly air. Interactive toys, climbing trees and a few puzzle feeders can keep an Abyssinian happy.
Rusty looks at the entrance as though planning her route, and she will surely run through it at top speed. Every maze needs a brave first explorer, and she looks ready. First, though, a careful look to see what is inside.
