The Pumpkins Were Giant and the Kitten Was Not. She Wasn't Worried.
Big orange pumpkins loom on every side, with curling green vines and dry leaves around them, and a tiny brown tabby kitten sits in the middle of the patch looking up and to the right. Her stripes blend well with the earth, and her pale chest and white paws stand out against the soil. In the background there are cornstalks, a red bucket tipped on its side, a crow perched on a fence and the back of a house.
A pumpkin patch looks like paradise to a kitten, but it needs a careful eye. Vines can trip little legs, rotting pumpkins attract insects and mold, and some garden areas have fertilizer or pest treatments that are not safe for pets. Wildlife can also wander in, so a kitten should be supervised and kept from chasing birds or other animals. Many cats simply enjoy watching, sniffing and walking among the stalks. A brown tabby is a classic pattern, and these cats are often curious, friendly and quick. Check her paws and fur for burrs or ticks after any trip outdoors, and talk to your vet if you are worried about anything she touched.
Clover looks like the smallest farmer in the field. She studies the pumpkins as though choosing the very best one to take home. When the sun sinks lower, she will probably head for a warm lap.
