A Kitten Peeked Out of an Orange Blanket Next to the Pie
Wrapped from chin to tail in a thick orange knit, a silver tabby British Shorthair kitten peers out with round copper eyes and a tiny pink nose. One white paw rests on the edge of the blanket. On the counter beside her sits a pumpkin pie with a golden crust and a slice cut out, along with small carved pumpkins, a mug, a cloth towel, and a heap of denim in the kitchen behind. A window lets in cool daylight, and the whole scene says quiet autumn afternoon.
Kittens love warmth and snug, wrapped-up spots, which remind them of cuddling with their mother and littermates. A soft blanket is a good way to help a new kitten feel safe, but choose a knit with no loose loops, because tiny claws can catch in them. British Shorthair kittens are chubby, calm, and usually mellow as they grow. As for the pie, keep human desserts out of reach: they contain sugar and spices that can upset a kitten's stomach, and kittens should be kept off kitchen counters, where hot dishes, knives, and food may cause harm. Ask your vet about kitten food and treats.
We could call her Cider. She has no interest in dessert, only in warmth and a good view of the kitchen. The blanket is her cocoon, and the pie is simply part of the scenery. Autumn feels especially cozy with a kitten tucked in.
