Somebody New Was Keeping the Peace on the Front Porch

Law and order has come to the front porch in the form of a small tabby kitten. She wears a brown cowboy hat tipped slightly back, a blue bandana, and a leather-style vest with a gold star pinned to the chest. Her green eyes stare down the boards with a serious, squinty look. Dry leaves have blown across the planks, and a pot of orange flowers and a carved pumpkin wait near the railing.

Maine Coon kittens are famous for growing into big, fluffy adults, and they are often described as friendly, gentle, and talkative with chirps and trills. They tend to stay playful well into adulthood, so a kitten like this one will probably be chasing things for years. With costumes, comfort is the rule. A hat should never be strapped tight under the chin, and an outfit should leave legs free and the neck loose. Most cats tolerate a costume for only a few minutes, so try it, take a moment to admire it, and then let your pet go back to being a cat.

This sheriff clearly takes the job seriously. Nothing gets past her on this stretch of porch, not a drifting leaf and certainly not a passing beetle. With a badge on her chest and a hat on her head, she looks ready for whatever comes up the steps, as long as it arrives politely.
