A Tiny Chihuahua Puppy Found the Only Stocking Big Enough to Hide In

AI imagechihuahuachristmas stockingpuppy

Only the head is showing, but it is quite a head. A cream Chihuahua puppy has tucked himself into a fat red knitted stocking with a thick white cuff, and he peers out over the edge with huge dark eyes and ears that stick out in two soft wings. A few wisps of fur stand straight up on his forehead like he just woke from a nap.

The room behind him is full of Christmas leftovers. Garland hangs across the wall, a plaid blanket lies on a wooden table, and toys and papers are scattered around a houseplant by the window. Sunlight pours in and warms his coat. We'll call him Peanut, small enough to be a stocking stuffer and quite proud of it.

Chihuahuas love burrowing, and so do many small dogs. Tucking into a blanket, a boot, or a sock is a natural way to feel safe and warm, and it is a good reason to give any small dog a soft bed with a cover he can snuggle under. Because they are so little, Chihuahuas get cold easily and should have a cozy spot away from drafts. Puppies like this should always be supervised in cozy hideouts so they cannot get stuck, and anything with loose threads or small decorations should be kept out of mouth range. Gentle handling matters too, since tiny puppies are fragile, and it helps to teach children to sit on the floor when holding them.

Peanut stays put, snug as a bug, looking out at his big, bright world one wide-eyed glance at a time.
