The Kibble Bag Is Torn Open. The Boston Terrier Is Very Interested in the Window.
Bag? What bag? A black and white Boston Terrier sits very upright on the wooden floor, gazing off toward the window with the studied calm of someone who definitely did not just do anything. Right beside him, a tall paper bag has been torn open at the side, and a small avalanche of kibble has poured out across the floorboards. Crumbs trail all the way to his front paws. The rest of the room offers no alibi either: a basket of laundry, a pair of slippers, scattered papers, and a few more stray pieces of evidence near the rug.
Getting into the food bag is one of the most common pet crimes, and it is worth taking seriously. A dog that gorges on a large amount of kibble can end up with an upset stomach, vomiting, or diarrhea, and in some cases a dangerously swollen belly. If the bag was cat food or treats, the extra fat and protein can be even harder on a dog's digestion. Signs like a bloated or tight abdomen, restlessness, or repeated attempts to vomit call for a quick call to the vet. The easiest prevention is storing pet food in a sturdy, sealed container kept behind a closed door.
As for this suspect, he is keeping his story simple: eyes on the window, ears up, absolutely nothing to see here. Unfortunately for him, the kibble trail leading right to his paws tells a very different tale.
