Something Outside Was So Important the Maltese Went Straight Through the Blinds
Something very important must have been happening outside, because this little white Maltese pushed straight through the blinds to see it. Now several slats are bent and twisted around her fluffy head, a loose cord loops past her ear, and the bottom of the blinds sags in a crooked heap on the sill. She stares straight ahead with round black eyes and a tiny black nose, wearing an expression of total innocence, as if the blinds simply attacked her. A basket of laundry and a small potted plant sit on the floor behind her.
Maltese are a small, ancient toy breed known for their silky white coats and affectionate, lively personalities. Many are alert little watchdogs that love to keep an eye on the street, which is why windows become favorite posts. If your dog likes to look out, a few changes make it safer. Cords on blinds and shades can wrap around a small pet's neck, so cordless styles or cord cleats that keep strings up high are a smart choice. A sturdy window seat or a cushioned bench gives a better view than squeezing through slats. If window watching leads to nonstop barking, frosted film on the lower part of the glass can help calm things down.
For now, this Maltese has the best view on the block, even if she paid for it with a pair of ruined blinds. She seems to think it was entirely worth it.
