Biscuit Sorted the Mail Into a Thousand Tiny Pieces
Torn envelopes and scraps of paper cover the floor, and sitting right in the middle is a cream-colored Havanese with soft, wavy fur and a worried little frown. His ears are pulled back, and his dark eyes look up toward the camera. A sofa, a basket and a stack of shoes fill the room behind him. The mail has been well and truly opened.
Havanese are small, sociable dogs with silky coats and a love of company. They are known as velcro dogs because they follow their people everywhere, and they do not like being left alone for long. A bored Havanese might shred paper to pass the time, so puzzle toys, short training sessions and a stuffed chew can help. Mail often carries glue and ink, and swallowing a lot of paper is not good for any dog, so call your vet if you think he ate a lot.
Keeping a mail basket on a high shelf and taking letters straight to a desk is an easy fix. Gentle brushing keeps that long coat comfortable, too.
He looks as if he did not enjoy the news. We might call him Biscuit, and Biscuit would like everyone to know that he was only helping to sort the bills. Havanese are sweet-natured even in a scrap, and a cuddle will fix almost everything. The mail, on the other hand, will need to be requested again.
