The Beagle Took the Bun and Looked Straight at Us
A Beagle with a lemon and white coat looks up with a hot dog bun held gently in his mouth, and his deep brown eyes are full of hope. His long ears fall beside his face, and his black nose is close to the camera. Behind him, a counter, a basket of laundry and a pile of sneakers fill the room. It looks as though his plan went very well.
Beagles are friendly, curious hounds with one of the best noses in the dog world. They were bred to follow scent trails, so food hidden anywhere in the house is not safe. They are social, affectionate and good with families, but they can be stubborn, and they tend to gain weight easily. A bun is fine in small amounts, but a hot dog and bun often come with salt, fat and sometimes seasonings, so it is not a good habit. Call your vet if he ate a lot.
Scent games and puzzle feeders give a Beagle's nose a fun job, and a firm leave it cue protects the picnic table. Keeping food out of reach is also very helpful.
He holds the bun like a prize and watches for the next move. If there is a mustard stain, it is probably still on the floor. Beagles are extremely patient when food is involved, so he may hold that bun for a long time while waiting for a reaction.
