A Cream Persian and the Mystery of the Nibbled TV Remote
The remote is right there next to her paw, and one corner of it looks suspiciously nibbled. The cream Persian sits on a beige rug with her amber eyes wide and her tiny mouth slightly open, as if she is about to say something and then thought better of it. Her fur is soft and puffy and her round face is tilted up toward whoever is standing over her. Behind her a grey blanket is folded on a chair and the room looks calm and quiet.
Remotes are a common target for chewing because they are small, plastic, and often smell like the people the cat loves. They are also warm after use, which cats like. The trouble is that remotes contain small buttons and batteries, and swallowing either can be dangerous. If a battery is chewed or swallowed, call your vet or an emergency clinic right away. Keep remotes in a drawer or a basket after you use them, and offer your cat safe chew toys and cat grass. Persians are calm, quiet companions who are happiest in peaceful homes, and they are rarely the destructive type, which makes this moment funnier.
She might be thinking that the channel was never right anyway. The remote will need a new battery cover, and the cat will need a new toy, preferably one that does not control the television. Until then, she will continue to look surprised that anyone noticed.
