Cheddar the Calico Climbed Right Into the Bag of Chips

AI imagecalico catchip bagkitchen table

The calico has climbed right into the chip bag, and golden potato chips are scattered around her on the table like confetti. Her eyes are very wide and her orange, black, and white face is turned upward in an expression of total surprise. The foil bag cups her like a nest, and behind her are scraps of laundry and papers, a quiet end to a busy afternoon.

Cats are fascinated by bags. They crinkle, they hide the cat from view, and they make a great ambush spot. It is one of the most familiar cat behaviors, and many cats love paper and plastic bags. But a few cautions apply. Plastic bags and anything with handles can be a suffocation or entanglement risk, so it is best to cut off handles or choose a paper bag or a cardboard box instead. As for chips, they are salty and greasy, not a good snack for a cat, and some flavors contain onion or garlic, which are unsafe. If your cat eats a lot of chips, call your vet. Calicos are known for their bold personalities.

We will call her Cheddar, thanks to her orange patches. The chips are a total loss, but the photo is a keeper. Cheddar will probably stay in the bag until someone gets a new one, and then she'll do it again.
