Frost the Norwegian Forest Cat Takes Over the Stove Top

AI imagenorwegian forest catstove topkitchen

The fluffy silver Norwegian Forest Cat is standing on the stove, right next to a pan, her thick coat looking like a grey cloud. Her ears are tilted back a bit, and she looks off to the side with the slightly sheepish air of someone who knows she is not supposed to be there. The kitchen behind her is clean and bright, with white tile, a wooden spoon, and a cloth on the counter.

Norwegian Forest Cats are large, strong cats from Scandinavia, well known for their thick double coats and their excellent climbing skills. In a kitchen, their love of heights can be a problem, because a stove top is both a tempting perch and a real danger. Burners can stay hot after the cooking is done, and a cat's paw can easily bump a knob. Stove knob covers can help, and so can a tall cat tree in a room where the family spends time. Keep pans empty and off the burners when you are not cooking, and wipe the stove so food smells do not attract her. If your cat gets burned, call your vet immediately.

We will call her Frost. She seems perfectly calm and a little bit embarrassed, and she certainly has the elegant look of a cat who owns the kitchen. A new perch for her is a good idea.
