A Black Lab With a Dirty Nose Sits Beside His Brand-New Hole
Dirt is smeared across his nose and chin, and the black Labrador Retriever sits beside a freshly dug hole in the garden with a guilty look in his brown eyes. His ears hang down and his glossy coat is smudged with soil. The yard behind him is full of plants and a wooden fence, and loose dirt is piled up around the hole as proof of an hour well spent.
Labrador Retrievers are friendly, energetic dogs who love to be active, and many of them love to dig, fetch, and swim. Digging is a natural instinct for many dogs, and it can come from boredom, heat, or the scent of something underground. To protect your garden, you can give your dog a digging area with loose soil and a few buried toys, and make sure he gets plenty of exercise. Check the yard for plants and products that are unsafe for dogs, such as certain fertilizers and mulches, and call your vet if your dog eats something questionable. Labs are also known for loving food and gaining weight easily, so keep an eye on his meals and treats.
He looks both proud and worried, and it is a very Labrador combination. The hole will be filled in, and he will be washed. By tomorrow he will probably have found a new spot.
