The Jack Russell Terrier Stopped Mid-Splash and Hoped Nobody Saw
The bowl is on its side, the water has spread into a wide, shining pool, and a white and tan Jack Russell Terrier sits right beside it with wide, startled eyes. One ear is up, the other flops over, and the little chest is damp where the splash landed. A pair of shoes and a bench sit in the hallway behind, and a faint trail of wet paw prints leads away across the tile.
Jack Russells are fast, sturdy terriers that never seem to run out of energy, and they love to push, paw, and pounce on anything that moves, including a water bowl. A heavier ceramic or weighted bowl, or one set in a stand, can help cut down on spills. Active dogs need fresh water all day, especially after play or in warm weather, so refill the bowl often, and notice if your dog starts drinking much more or less than usual. That is a good reason to check with your vet. A smooth floor can also be slippery, so a mat under the bowl will protect both floor and paws.
The mop is already waiting, and the dog is already planning the next experiment. For now, though, the terrier sits perfectly still in the middle of the puddle, as if the best way to avoid blame is to become part of the furniture, and the plan is going nowhere.
