A Saint Bernard Walked Off With the Bun and Looked So Happy About It

AI imagesaint bernardcaught in the acthot dog bun

A big red and white Saint Bernard looks straight into the camera with a whole hot dog bun held in its mouth like a trophy. The big, soft eyes carry a tiny smile, the drooping jowls frame the bread, and a few crumbs have landed on the chest fur. Behind, a wooden floor stretches back to a plant and a doorway, and a rug lies crumpled where the dog came running.

Saint Bernards were bred in the Swiss Alps to help travelers, and they are known for their patient, kind natures. They're also giant dogs with giant appetites, and a countertop snack is easy to reach for a dog that tall. Keep food well off the edge, since large dogs can grab things quickly. Hot dog buns aren't toxic, but the things that go with cookouts, like onions, sauces, and fatty meats, can be hard on a dog's stomach, so ask your vet if you're unsure. Giant breeds do best on carefully measured meals to keep a healthy weight, since extra pounds can strain their joints.

The cookout will be one bun short, and the dog is thoroughly pleased. Nobody is quite sure how a dog that big got the bun without anyone noticing, but with a smile like that, the case is closed, and the sweet, gentle face wins again.
