A Cocker Spaniel Sits in a Feather Storm and Looks Away
Feathers are still settling when the Cocker Spaniel decides to look the other way. A buff-colored dog named Honey sits on the remains of a pillow, her long golden ears hanging, and a few white feathers cling to her coat. More feathers drift down through the air and cover the floor and the couch behind her. She keeps her head turned, as if the whole mess belonged to somebody else's dog.
Cocker Spaniels are friendly, gentle dogs that were bred to flush birds, so a feather-filled pillow may stir up some instinct for them. The soft texture and the tiny feathers floating through the air are exciting to a dog that loves scent and movement. These dogs are also very social, and when left alone for long periods they may chew to pass the time.
Feathers and stuffing can cause stomach trouble if swallowed in large amounts, so clean them up promptly and call your vet if your dog seems unwell. A good walk before you leave the house, a food puzzle or a sturdy chew toy can help a dog stay calm. Spaniels also have long ears that need regular cleaning and a check for stray feathers or debris.
Honey sits in the middle of her fluffy storm with remarkable calm, pretending to be fascinated by something over by the window. For a dog who just made a snowstorm indoors, she is doing very well.
