The Box Was Meant for Recycling. A Gray Persian Had Other Plans.
Fluffy gray fur spills over the edge of an open cardboard box, and a Persian cat sits inside, turned away as though she has more important things to think about. Her round face is serene, her paws rest on the cardboard rim, and the corner of a kitchen towel hangs nearby. The box looks a size too small, but she fills it with calm authority. Anyone could see that she has officially declared it hers.
Almost every cat loves a box. Cardboard is a good insulator, so it holds warmth, and the sides make a cat feel hidden and safe while she watches the room. Persians are quiet, gentle cats with long, thick coats who often prefer calm, predictable homes. Their flat faces and heavy fur mean they need regular brushing, and gentle cleaning around the eyes helps keep them comfortable. A cardboard box is a cheap, safe way to add comfort, but remove tape and staples first. If your cat spends a lot of time hiding, or seems stressed, mention it to your vet.
It is a small box and a big personality, and the two have found each other. Whatever was supposed to come out of that box is now a matter of negotiation. She will leave when she feels like it, and not a moment sooner. Her calm, round face suggests that the whole thing was a perfectly reasonable arrangement.
