A Blue British Shorthair Stares Past the Teddy Bear He Just Defeated
Poor teddy lies in a heap, his tan fur ripped open and soft white stuffing spilling onto the floor. Beside him sits a blue-grey British Shorthair with a serious, round face and big golden eyes. His plush coat looks like velvet, his paws are neatly placed, and a slipper, a blanket, and a basket sit in the background. He is looking just past the teddy, as if the bear fell apart on its own.
British Shorthairs are calm, sturdy cats with dense coats and a reputation for being easygoing. They are not always lap cats, but they enjoy being near their people. Cats often attack soft toys because kicking with the back legs is a hunting behavior, mimicking how they would subdue prey. It is normal play, but stuffing and small parts like plastic eyes can be dangerous if swallowed, so choose cat-safe toys and check them for wear. If he eats any stuffing, talk to your vet. A cat tree, a wand toy, and plenty of daily play can help burn off all that energy before it lands on the teddy.
The bear gave a good fight, but he did not stand a chance. Now the room has a small snowfall of stuffing, and a cat who looks utterly unbothered. Somewhere, a very tiny memorial may be needed. His calm stare suggests that the bear was already like that when he arrived.
