A Black Cat Sat in the Couch Fluff With His Ears Tucked Back
The sofa has a large hole in its cushion, and a drift of white fluff has gathered around a black cat who sits right in the middle. His yellow eyes are wide and his ears are pulled slightly back, giving him a sheepish look. Bits of blue throw blanket peek out nearby, a plant stands on the shelf, and scraps of paper cover the floor. Against all that white fluff, his dark coat looks glossy and sleek.
Scratching is a normal cat behavior that helps cats stretch, mark territory with scent glands in their paws, and keep claws in shape. A sofa can seem like the perfect scratching post because the fabric gives a satisfying pull. Cats prefer sturdy posts that are tall enough for a full stretch, and placing one next to the favorite furniture often helps. Rubbing a little catnip on it can improve the odds. Loose fluff and stuffing can be risky if swallowed, so call your vet if that happens. Some people also use furniture covers or soft nail caps to protect their couches.
He looks a bit ashamed, but also quite comfortable in the fluff. The sofa has seen better days, and the vacuum will have a busy afternoon. Still, a black cat in a cloud of white is a handsome sight, even in the middle of a mess.
