A Blue Great Dane Joins the Family for Breakfast Uninvited
A very tall blue-gray Great Dane has his front paws on the kitchen table, and the breakfast spread is within easy reach. There is toast, butter, eggs, berries and an avocado half, and the big dog looks over it all with a faint smile and warm brown eyes. His ears hang softly, and the morning light spills across the counter behind him.
Great Danes are among the tallest breeds, standing taller than many people when they rise up on their hind legs. They are gentle, patient dogs with friendly natures. That height makes counter-surfing almost effortless, and a Dane can see everything on a table without even trying.
Many breakfast foods are not safe for dogs. Avocado contains a substance called persin that can upset a dog's stomach, and butter and rich foods can cause pancreatitis. Teach a solid off command and keep food away from edges. If your dog eats something worrying, call your vet. Giant breeds are also prone to bloat, so avoid large meals and hard exercise right after eating.
The Dane looks very calm, as if he came to join the meal, and he is not worried about being asked to leave. He has a gentle face and a patient smile. It is hard to be annoyed with a dog who just wants to join the family for breakfast.
