A Sphynx Has Built Herself a Nest of Wrapping Paper

AI imagesphynxwrapping paperliving room

Brown wrapping paper has exploded across the floor, and the pink Sphynx sitting in the middle of it has folded her big ears back in a very small apology. She perches on the crinkled sheets with her wrinkled shoulders hunched, her gaze angled to the side, and a roll of paper lying unrolled right beside her paws.

The room around her glows with lamplight. A gray sofa piled with clothes, a pair of slippers, a tangle of cords, and a TV remote on the floor tell the story of a household in the middle of a busy gift-wrapping evening.

Sphynx cats have no fur to keep them warm, so they hunt for cozy hideaways, and a crinkly nest of paper is both warm and satisfying. Many love sound as much as warmth, since crackling paper is irresistible to a curious cat. Because the cat's skin is bare, it is also sensitive to rough or sharp edges, and ribbons and tape deserve special care. Keep ribbon, string, and tape out of reach, since swallowing any of them can cause serious trouble and needs a vet's attention. Give a Sphynx a soft blanket or heated pet bed of her own so she is not tempted to build her own nest elsewhere.

She has a look of sweet regret, though a cat that comfortable cannot be too sorry. The present for the evening may have just been herself.
