The Baking Was Going Well Until the Red Tabby Joined In
Flour covers the counter like fresh snow, and in the middle of it sits a round-faced red tabby with a white dusting across his nose and cheeks. A torn bag of flour tips on its side behind him, a spoon lies in the mess, and a small paw print marks the powder near his feet. Garlic bulbs, a sink full of dishes and lemons in a bowl crowd the background. His big copper eyes are wide with a sheepish look. We'll call him Pancake, and he looks like he's been caught mid-recipe.
Exotic Shorthairs are often described as the easygoing cousins of the Persian. They have a plush, short coat, a flat face and a calm, affectionate nature, and they tend to enjoy lounging near their people. Their flat faces mean they can have trouble with tears or breathing, so regular face cleaning and vet checkups are a good idea. Flour itself isn't poisonous for cats, but it can get in their eyes and lungs if they stir up a big cloud, and baked dough can upset their stomachs. Keep ingredients in sealed containers and let your cat watch from a perch instead.
Pancake is sitting very still, hoping the flour will make him invisible. Instead, he looks like a sugar-dusted cookie. Whoever was planning to bake will have to start over, and the kitchen now needs a full cleanup.
