The Cavalry Officer Has a Stern Face and a Very Pink Plume
Plumes of soft pink feather rise like a sunrise above the officer's gilded helmet. Beneath it sits a round, blue-grey British Shorthair with copper-orange eyes and a plush, solemn face, gazing out with great authority. His coat is a pale pink silk heavily stitched with gold, and a fat gold fringed epaulette hangs from the shoulder. Behind him, soft clouds, flower garlands and golden scrolls swirl in a creamy pastel haze.
The contrast is wonderful. All that fluffy color surrounds a stern, unblinking face that looks as if it has just ordered the whole cavalry to stop for tea.
British Shorthairs are known for their dense, plush coats, round faces and calm, easygoing manner. The blue coloring, a soft grey, is one of the best known. They tend to be affectionate without being clingy, and many prefer sitting beside you to sitting on your lap. They are usually content with moderate play and can be prone to gaining weight, so measured meals and gentle exercise help them stay trim. Their thick coat benefits from weekly brushing, and more often when they shed. As with any breed, a vet can advise on diet and checkups.
The officer may be fully equipped for battle, but we suspect the only charge he is planning is toward the sunniest cushion. His fluffy plumes will wave proudly the whole way, and the cushion will never stand a chance.
