The Duke of Wrinkles Reviewed the Court and Sighed Deeply
Wrinkles upon wrinkles, a pushed-in nose and a heavy, serious jaw: this brindle and white Bulldog has the weight of command in his face. He wears a deep blue velvet coat with a stiff gold collar, round gold buttons running neatly down the front and gold braided epaulettes on his shoulders. A frothy white lace cravat rests against his chest. His eyes look slightly off to the side, as if he is listening to a petitioner and has already formed an opinion.
Bulldogs are known for being gentle, loyal and a little stubborn. Despite the tough look, most are easygoing family dogs that love a nap and a cuddle. Their short noses and heavy build mean they overheat easily, so shade, cool floors and short walks are important in warm weather. The skin folds on the face may need gentle cleaning and drying to stay comfortable, and a vet can show you how. Many Bulldogs also snore loudly, which is generally part of the charm, though sudden changes in breathing should be checked.
His grace the Duke has clearly governed his estate for many years, mostly from the best armchair. If he looks unimpressed, remember that this is simply how Bulldog dignity works. A nod from him is a great honor, and a snack from you is a greater one.
