The Admiral Surveyed His Fleet and Gave a Very Serious Frown

The admiral has come straight from the quarterdeck. A pied French Bulldog looks out from the shadows, one ear black and one ear white, both standing tall like a pair of radar dishes. His navy velvet coat is edged with gold leaf embroidery, a row of brass buttons marches down the front, and a heavy gold epaulette sits on each broad shoulder. The brown eyes are serious but kind, and the slightly downturned mouth gives him the air of a captain who has just spotted a storm on the horizon.

French Bulldogs are compact, affectionate companions that do well in apartments, which is part of why they are so popular. They are not strong swimmers, though, and their flat faces mean they can overheat quickly, so keep exercise gentle and avoid hot, humid days. Many Frenchies snore, snort, and wheeze a bit, but any labored breathing is worth a conversation with your vet. A harness is usually kinder than a collar, and the skin folds on the face benefit from gentle, regular cleaning. They bond closely with their people and prefer to be near the family rather than left alone for long hours.

As for the fleet, it is probably one very sturdy bathtub and a rubber duck. Still, no admiral in any age has ever looked prouder of his command, and he would defend that rubber duck to the last.
