The Samoyed Gardener Smiled Over a Basket of Fresh Roses
Snow-white fur frames a smiling face, and a basket of roses rests in the gardener's arms. This Samoyed has dark, almond-shaped eyes, upright ears, and the famous gentle curve of the mouth that gives the breed its smile. He wears a green velvet coat embroidered in gold, a lace collar, and a brown leather apron tied on over the top. The roses are pink, cream, and deep red, with eucalyptus leaves tucked in, and a candle glows warmly in the dark behind him. The lace collar and leather apron suggest he takes the gardening seriously, and a few rose leaves have settled on his paws.
Samoyeds were bred in Siberia to herd reindeer and pull sleds, and they are cheerful, social, and strong. Their thick, double coat keeps them warm in the cold, but it needs frequent brushing, especially when they shed twice a year. They are chatty dogs and often bark or talk when they are excited, so training and exercise are important. Samoyeds can overheat in hot weather, so keep them cool and avoid midday walks in summer. They also do best with company, because a lonely Samoyed can become bored and loud.
The roses are lovely, but we suspect the best part of the garden for him is a cool patch of grass. The gardener's smile suggests that every petal has been inspected twice. His bouquet is ready.
