A Basset Hound Princess Wore Lace and Pearls and Had Long, Long Ears
Long dark ears hang straight down on either side of a sweet, droopy face, and a small gold crown sits between them like a tiny castle. The Basset Hound princess wears a wide lace collar edged with a scalloped border and a double string of pearls, plus a green gown embroidered in gold and cream. Her tricolor coat shows rich brown, black and white, with soulful brown eyes and loose skin that falls in gentle folds. The green wall behind her has a faded floral pattern. Princess Clementine looks like she has just smelled something wonderful from the next hall.
Basset Hounds were bred in France to follow scent trails close to the ground, and their long ears help sweep scent up toward the nose. They are mellow, friendly and often stubborn, so patient, treat-based training works well. Their long backs and short legs mean that stairs, jumping and extra weight can strain the spine, so keep them lean and lift them carefully into cars. Those lovely ears need regular cleaning to prevent infections, and the loose facial skin should be kept dry. A good sniff walk is the perfect way to keep a Basset happy.
The crown might wobble if she shakes her head, so she is wisely staying put. A princess with this much sweetness doesn't need to move to be admired.
