A pile of chocolate and tan Dachshund puppies stacked on top of each other among dry brown autumn leaves near a porch step. 6 / 31

Somebody Raked the Autumn Leaves. Then the Chocolate Puppies Built a Tower.

AI imagedachshundautumn leavespuppies

Fall leaves crunch underfoot, and right in the middle of them sits a wiggly tower of chocolate Dachshund puppies. They're stacked every which way, one perched proudly on top, three peeking out from the middle, and one more tucked into the bottom of the pile with its chin resting on a crisp oak leaf. Each pup has the same warm brown coat with tan eyebrows and paws, plus a pair of soft, floppy ears. Their wide, curious eyes all seem to be fixed on something just off to the side.

Dachshunds come in a range of colors and patterns, and chocolate and tan is one of the classic combinations, with rich brown fur and lighter markings on the face, chest, and legs. Puppies love to pile together, a habit left over from their earliest days in the litter when snuggling kept everyone warm. Autumn is a fun season for outdoor play, but leaf piles deserve a quick check. Wet leaves can grow mold, and piles can hide sticks, acorns, mushrooms, and ticks. Acorns and some wild mushrooms can be harmful if eaten, so keep an eye on curious puppy mouths and talk to your vet if you suspect your dog swallowed something it shouldn't have.

Whoever is on top of this pile clearly considers it a victory. The ones underneath don't seem to mind one bit. Fall is better in a crowd.
