A Speckled Dachshund Puppy Decided the Flower Pot Was His Throne

AI imagedachshunddappleflower pot

Somebody forgot to plant anything in this flower pot, so a dapple Dachshund puppy has moved in. He sits straight up inside the terracotta rim, speckled coat shining in the lamplight, one ear flopped forward and the other folded back. A few crumbs of soil cling to his paws, and his dark eyes look straight into the camera as if he were posing for a portrait.

The dapple pattern, sometimes called merle, gives a Dachshund those marbled patches of gray, cream and tan mixed with darker spots. It is simply a coat pattern and has nothing to do with personality: Dachshunds of every color tend to be curious, bold and a little stubborn. They are often loyal to one or two favorite people and may bark to announce anything that seems interesting. If a puppy likes sitting among your houseplants, a quick safety check is smart. Several popular houseplants can upset a dog's stomach or be toxic if chewed, so look up anything you own or ask your vet. Potting soil and fertilizer are best kept out of mouth range too.

The pot is surprisingly roomy, and the puppy fits like he was ordered for it. He looks quite proud of his new spot, and the fern next to him seems to have accepted the competition. A watering can would probably have to wait until he decides to climb out, which may take a while.
