A Dachshund Puppy Climbed Into the Clean Laundry. The Folding Stopped.

AI imagedachshundlaundry basketpuppies

Clean laundry has never looked this good. A chocolate Dachshund puppy sits in a wicker basket with a gray shirt pulled around him like a blanket, his front paws draped over the edge and his wide brown eyes looking up. Behind him the room is cheerfully messy: piles of clothes, a houseplant, a slipper on the floor.

Cats are not the only animals that love a snug container. Dogs descended from den-dwelling animals, and many still feel safest in a small space with walls close around them. A basket, a box or a pile of clothes offers that cozy, enclosed feeling, and warm fabric that smells like the family makes it even better. Dachshund puppies seem especially fond of burrowing, which fits a breed developed to go into tunnels after small game. You can turn that instinct into something useful by giving a young dog a soft blanket he can tunnel under or a crate with a cozy cover. Just keep an eye on loose threads, socks and small items, because puppies sometimes chew what they sleep on.

This one has settled in with great dignity. The folding is going to have to wait a bit, and the shirt now belongs to him. Somewhere in the pile there is probably a missing sock, but nobody is going to ask him about it right now.
