Four Tricolor Basset Puppies Peered Over the Toy Box Rim
Four tricolor Basset Hound puppies stand in a row behind the edge of a wooden toy box, their chins resting on the rim. Their ears are long and glossy, their tan eyebrows lift, and each face has a slightly different look of hopeful curiosity. Inside the box are a plush bear, wooden blocks and a few soft toys, and beyond it a sofa and a basket glow in warm light.
A toy box is a treasure chest for a puppy, and Basset puppies love to investigate. Rotating toys is a good way to keep them interested: put a few out at a time and swap them every few days. Choose toys sized appropriately, so they cannot be swallowed, and check for loose parts, especially on plush toys and wooden pieces. Chew toys help during teething, which can be a bumpy time. Scent games are the best way to keep a Basset's mind busy, so hide a treat in a toy or under a cloth and let them find it with their noses. Toys that squeak, roll or can be stuffed provide variety. A basic safety rule applies to any toy: if it breaks or frays, take it away and replace it.
These four have spotted something good in that box. Whatever they pick will be carried around the house for days.
