This Weimaraner Puppy Is Working Hard on Escaping the Playpen
On its hind legs, a silver Weimaraner puppy has hooked both front paws over the edge of a mesh playpen and is plotting its escape. Its ears hang forward and its eyes are fixed on the world beyond. A plush bunny lies on the floor, a houseplant leans in from the corner, and a pale blanket sits just outside the bars.
Playpens are useful tools for keeping puppies safe while adults are busy. A good setup includes a comfy bed, water, a chew toy, and a spot for bathroom training, and it should be big enough for the puppy to stretch out and move around. Puppies should not be left in a playpen for long stretches, because they need exercise, company, and regular potty breaks. A puppy that climbs often may need a taller pen, so check that it is stable.
Weimaraners are athletic and inquisitive, and a pup like this one may test every fence it meets. Giving it daily play sessions outside the pen, with games and new things to sniff, helps use up that energy. Teaching calm behavior in the pen from the start makes it a place of comfort, not a place of frustration.
The puppy is not quite tall enough to clear the rail yet, but it is clearly working on a plan. Give it a few more weeks.
