Two Saint Bernard Puppies Met a Bowl of Food Bigger Than Their Heads
Two Saint Bernard puppies lean over a big steel bowl heaped with brown kibble, their noses nearly touching the food. One has its ears folded forward, and the other peers up at the camera with soft, curious eyes. Behind them, a sofa, a blanket, and a few toys scatter across a warm wooden floor.
Feeding a large-breed puppy takes planning. Saint Bernards grow very quickly, and growing too fast can strain bones and joints, so vets often suggest a food made for large-breed puppies and measured portions. Meals are usually spread across the day. Because this breed has a deep chest, vets also advise calm feeding and avoiding hard exercise right after meals. Ask your vet for a plan tailored to your puppy.
Mealtime is also a good chance to teach manners. Ask the puppy to sit before the bowl goes down, and give each puppy its own dish if there are several. Fresh water should always be nearby. Treats are fine in moderation, but they should not replace balanced meals.
The bowl is huge, and so is the interest. These two look ready to dig in, though the sniffing seems to be thorough first. Dinner will vanish quickly once it starts, and the bowl will be clean in no time, ready for a rinse and a refill later. A sip of water will come next.
