Laundry Day Got Delayed When Four Pups Climbed Into the Basket
Someone was clearly planning to do laundry, but four red and white Border Collie puppies have had other ideas. They are packed into a woven basket like fuzzy socks that have decided to stay, with faces peeking over the rim from every direction. A pair of brown ears flops on one side while a white muzzle rests on a furry back on the other.
Puppies love enclosed spaces, and it is not hard to see why. Dogs descend from animals that rested in dens, and many still feel safest in a snug spot with walls around them. A basket, a box or a crate lined with a soft blanket can give a pup a comfy place to retreat. If you use a crate, introduce it gradually with treats and praise so it becomes a happy place and never a punishment.
A tip from this picture, though: a basket full of clothes is a place where small teeth can find tempting things. Socks, towels and slippers are all favorite chew targets, and swallowing fabric can be dangerous. Keep laundry out of reach and offer proper chew toys instead. If a puppy ever swallows something it should not have, call your vet.
Meanwhile the clean clothes can wait. The basket has been unanimously voted the coziest room in the house, and four tails are tucked in somewhere underneath the pile.
