Three Puppies Climbed Into the Wagon and Refused to Climb Out

AI imageborder collieblack and whitered wagon

Three black and white Border Collie puppies are lined up in a little red wagon like passengers waiting for the train to leave. They sit shoulder to shoulder, dark ears perked and bright eyes fixed on something just beyond the camera. The one on the left has a white chest and a thoughtful look, while the pup in the middle wears a perfect white stripe down its nose.

Wagon rides are a fun way to bring a young puppy along for outdoor adventures before it is ready for long walks. Many vets recommend keeping pups away from areas where unvaccinated dogs may have been until their shots are complete, so a wagon or stroller can be a handy way to let them see the world safely. Ask your vet when your puppy is ready for the sidewalk and the dog park.

The Border Collie's attention to everything that moves makes wagon time a good chance to practice calm behavior. Pups can learn that new sights are interesting rather than scary, especially when they get a calm voice and a treat for sitting nicely. Keeping a hand nearby is a good idea, since a curious pup can easily try a flying leap.

These three are staying put, at least for now. They look as though they have been told the wagon is going somewhere exciting, and none of them is willing to be left off the guest list.
