Five Chocolate Puppies Piled Up on the Lawn in One Big Heap
On a patch of green lawn, five chocolate-brown Havanese puppies have collapsed into a squirming pile. A tiny paw reaches over a back, someone's ears are flipped inside out, and the one at the top stands tall with a proud look as if he has conquered the heap. The late sun makes their dark curly coats glow like polished wood, and a fence stretches out behind them.
Havanese puppies have a lively, social nature, and they love a game with their friends. Playing together teaches them how to read other dogs and how hard is too hard. It helps to give them time to rest, because small puppies tire quickly. A fenced yard with fresh water and some shade is ideal, and it is a good idea to check the grass for lawn treatments before letting a pup roll in it.
Chocolate is one of several colors the breed can come in, along with cream, black, white and mixes of those. The name can sound confusing: the color is only a coat shade and has nothing to do with the sweet itself, which is dangerous for dogs and should always be kept out of reach. Havanese coats are silky and can need regular brushing, especially after a roll on the lawn.
The wrestling match will probably end in a nap. Right now, though, five tails are wagging, and the game is far from over.
