Two Cream Puppies Fell Asleep Inside a Cardboard Box

The box was probably meant for something else, but now it belongs to two cream Havanese puppies who have fallen asleep in it, side by side. Their soft, pale coats blend into the cardboard, and one puppy has its chin on the other's back. Warm light falls across the floor, and the box's flaps are folded neatly out of the way.

Dogs, like cats, often enjoy boxes. A cardboard box has walls to lean on, a snug size and an interesting texture, and it makes an easy den for a small pup. It is also a convenient place to sleep, but keep an eye on chewing, since swallowed pieces of cardboard may cause an upset stomach in some dogs. A box with a soft towel inside is a fine temporary bed for supervised naps.

Havanese are typically calm and affectionate, and a nap like this is part of their charm. Even energetic pups conk out hard after playing. Because the breed tends to bond closely with its family, a puppy that naps near its people often feels most secure. If you are bringing home a puppy, a cozy corner near the family area is a good choice.

Whatever was originally in the box has been forgotten. The only things in it now are two warm puppies and a great deal of peace.
