A Chocolate Havanese Puppy Sank Into His Bed and Vanished
Deep in the folds of a quilted blanket, a chocolate Havanese puppy has fallen asleep in his round beige dog bed. His curly brown coat looks as soft as velvet, his eyes are shut tight, and his chin rests on the cushion with a very peaceful sigh. A woven mat and a flip-flop appear at the edge of the picture.
A good dog bed is a major investment for a growing pup. Look for one that is washable, has a firm base and has sides that give a sense of security. For small dogs like the Havanese, a bolstered bed lets them curl up or lean against the edge, and many puppies appreciate a blanket to burrow into. Place the bed in a quiet area, away from drafts, where the pup can still hear family sounds.
Havanese are companion dogs, so many of them like to sleep near their people. If your puppy seems anxious at night, a bed in your bedroom for a while can help, and then you can move it gradually. Your vet can offer tips on settling a new pup if you are worried about sleep.
This one is not anxious about a thing. He is warm, full and safe, and he is probably dreaming about something wonderful, like an endless supply of squeaky toys. The blanket rises and falls with each tiny breath, and the room around him is hushed, as if everyone in the house agreed to whisper.
