Four Puppies, One Blanket, and a Garden Full of Quiet Secrets
Nap time has taken over the backyard. Four russet puppies are piled onto a faded blanket, heads resting on each other's backs and paws, eyes shut tight. The lightest pup sprawls in the foreground with one paw stretched out, while two darker brothers and sisters tuck in behind. Behind them sit a clay flowerpot, a pair of old gardening gloves, a coiled hose, and a green watering can, with a few dry leaves scattered over the ground.
Puppies sleep a lot, and that is completely normal. Young Golden Retrievers often need many hours of rest spread across the day, because they are growing quickly and spend their waking time exploring and learning. Piling together is natural too. Littermates keep each other warm and feel secure in a heap, which is why you so often find them snoozing in a tangle. A clean, dry blanket and a quiet spot out of the wind or hot sun make a good outdoor nap place, and it is wise to supervise any puppy outside.
Goldens are famous for being gentle and eager to please, and that sweet nature shows early. Gentle handling and calm routines help a young pup grow into a relaxed adult. If you ever wonder how much rest your own puppy needs, talk to your vet.
For now the garden tools can wait. The only job on today's list is breathing slowly in a warm puppy pile, and these four are doing it beautifully.
