Five Little White Puppies Vanished Into the Snow Pile

AI imagemaltesepuppiessnow

It is hard to tell the puppies from the snow. Five white Maltese pups tumble together in the yard, with a pink tongue here, a nose there, and ears flapping as they wriggle. One at the left looks toward us with wide dark eyes, another beside him seems to be mid-giggle, and a few more are squashed together in the middle of a happy scrum. A gray shed and bare branches stand behind them.

Snow can be thrilling for small dogs, but Maltese puppies are tiny and lose heat quickly, with thin coats against the cold. Keep outings short, and dry them well afterward, particularly their paws and bellies, where ice can collect in long hair. De-icing salts can irritate paws, so wipe them clean. Shivering is a sign your puppy needs to go inside and warm up.

Some owners put a snug, dog-safe sweater on a small puppy for cold days, but check that it fits well and does not hamper movement. A warm bed and fresh water indoors are the perfect ending to snow play. Your vet can give advice about winter care for your puppy's age. Warm towels fresh from the dryer feel wonderful afterward.

White puppies in white snow make a beautiful and giggly sight. They will probably want to do it all over again tomorrow.
