Three Puppies Hopped Into a Blue Pool and the Splashing Began
The splash is real, and so are the soggy faces. Three white puppies stand in a small blue plastic pool, their fur wet and flattened, as water droplets fly through the air. The pup on the left has his whiskers dripping and looks a bit surprised, the middle one watches the splashes with big eyes, and the one on the right stares off with calm interest. A laundry basket, a hose, and some potted plants sit around the yard.
Water play can be great fun on a warm day, but small puppies need extra care. Keep the water shallow, so even a tiny Maltese can stand with his head up, and never leave puppies unattended near a pool of any size. Use lukewarm, clean water and provide shade. Afterward, dry the coat thoroughly, since damp, long fur can tangle and cause skin irritation.
Some puppies love water and others are cautious. Let your pup decide, and never force him in. Offer a treat, speak softly, and let him sniff first. Be sure your puppy cannot drink a lot of pool water, and talk to your vet if you have questions about water safety for small breeds. A warm towel and a quiet rest afterward round out a splashy afternoon.
Three pups, one pool, and plenty of splashing. By the end, everyone will need a towel and a nap.
