Two Little Puppies Found the Warmest Stripe of Sun on the Floor

AI imagemaltesepuppiessunbeam

A bright stripe of sun cuts across the wooden floor, and two white puppies lie in it, chins on the boards. The pup on the left rests with his face tilted toward his sibling, eyes half closed, while the other lies with his nose low and ears relaxed. Behind them, a couch leg, a pile of knit blankets, and a pair of fuzzy slippers sit in the shadow, with a charging cable curling across the floor.

Sunbeams are favorite napping spots for dogs, but there are a few hazards in the picture. A charging cable on the floor can tempt a chewing puppy, and chewing on cords can cause injury. Tuck cables away or cover them. Make sure your puppy can step out of the sun if he gets warm, and provide fresh water.

Small dogs like Maltese enjoy warmth, but they can also overheat in direct sun through a window. Their long coat holds heat, so check them regularly, and move them to a cooler spot if they pant heavily. Ask your vet about summer care for toy breeds. Keep the floor clear of small items they might chew, and keep fresh water nearby. A short stretch of play after the nap helps burn off energy.

Both pups look like they are in a deep, warm daydream. The sunbeam will fade, but for now, it's all theirs.
