Five Weimaraner Puppies Vanished Into the Tall Grass Together
Tall summer grass makes the perfect nest for five silver-gray puppies. They are clustered close together with ears overlapping, some looking at us and some looking away, each one sporting the same wide-eyed, sleepy expression. Golden light slants across the yard, catching the tips of the grass, while a watering can, a pair of boots and a pink flowering plant wait on the step behind them. The little pile looks like one big, soft, wriggly creature.
Backyard grass is a great place for puppies to explore, with a few safety checks. Tall grass can hide foxtails and burrs that get stuck in ears, eyes and paws, and it is a favorite hangout for ticks, so check your puppy over after a romp and talk to your vet about parasite prevention. Provide shade and fresh water on warm days, since puppies overheat easily. Weimaraners also have light, sensitive skin, so avoid long stretches in hot sun. Short outdoor sessions with plenty of rest are a good plan.
For the moment, they are quiet and warm, and a gentle breeze moves through the grass. Summer does not get much more peaceful.
Somewhere in the middle of that pile, a tail is probably wagging and a nose is probably twitching at a passing bug. The grass keeps the secret well, and the five of them look wonderfully happy to stay hidden for a while.
