Two Beagle Puppies Yawned on the Couch at the Exact Same Time
Two tricolor Beagle puppies on a gray couch are caught in the middle of a synchronized yawn, mouths wide open and tongues curled. One has her eyes squeezed shut, the other looks upward, and both have long ears hanging in perfect folds. Behind them, a window lets in soft light, and a mug, a knit blanket and a stack of papers crowd the cushions. It is the sleepiest corner of a very comfortable living room.
Puppies yawn for many reasons, and tiredness is only one of them. A yawn can also help a dog stretch, shake off tension, or signal that it is a little unsure of what is going on. When paired with loose, floppy posture like this, it usually just means sleepy. Beagles are social, and many will copy the mood of the dog beside them, so one yawn can quickly turn into two. A regular schedule with naps helps puppies stay balanced and calm.
If you notice a puppy yawning during training, it may mean the session has gone on a little long. Short, upbeat lessons work best.
Right now, the only lesson is the one about napping, and these two seem to have it down perfectly. When they wake up properly, the living room will turn back into a racetrack, and the couch cushions will be the first casualty. It is a gentle reminder that the best entertainment is often the simplest.
