A Beagle Puppy Popped Up in the Toy Box Like He'd Found Treasure

AI imagebeaglepuppytoy box

A red and white Beagle puppy peeks over the edge of a wooden toy box, chin resting on the slats and one ear flipped back. His eyes are wide and his nose points toward us as though he is checking whether we noticed him there. Colorful toys fill the box around him, including a blue stuffed whale, a yellow star and a plush rabbit, and a couch and blanket wait in the background.

Beagles are curious and enthusiastic about anything that smells interesting, and a box of toys is full of scent. Rotating toys is a clever way to keep a puppy interested, and so is offering puzzle toys that reward sniffing. Check plush toys for loose eyes or seams, which can be swallowed, and remove any piece that is coming apart. Chew toys made for puppies are better for teething than anything from around the house. Supervise play with small items, and wash soft toys regularly.

This breed has a famously loud voice, called baying, and a Beagle puppy may announce its toy discoveries to the whole house. Gentle training can teach the quiet cue.

For now, he has hidden in a pile of treasure, and he knows it. At some point he will clamber out with a toy in his mouth and parade it around the room, but for now he is perfectly happy as the king of the box.
