Frank and Marion Set Up Their Lawn Chairs for the Sunset. Cocoa Faced the Other Way.
The sun is sinking behind the neighbor's roof, washing the sky in soft gold, and Frank and Marion have set up two folding lawn chairs side by side in the backyard to watch it go. Their backs are to us, both in cream cable-knit sweaters, Frank in his glasses and Marion with her silver hair twisted into a neat bun, both facing the fading light in quiet companionship. Cocoa sits in the foreground, her curly chocolate head turned to the side, mouth open in a relaxed little pant, ears soft and full. The garden around them is a pleasant tangle of plants, a wooden fence, and a few pots catching the last of the light.
Ending the day outside together is a simple ritual with real rewards. Spending time outdoors, even just sitting in the yard, can be relaxing, and a dog by your side adds comfort and a sense of routine. Evenings do bring a few things to watch for with pets. Mosquitoes are often most active at dusk, and they can carry heartworm, so year-round prevention as recommended by your vet matters. Ticks can lurk in tall grass and garden beds, and a Poodle's dense curls can hide them well, so a quick check afterward is wise. As the air cools, older dogs may appreciate a blanket or a warm spot to curl up.
Nobody is saying much, and nobody needs to. Two chairs, one sunset, and a faithful dog are the perfect way to close another good day together.
