Marion Turned the Hose on the Car. Cocoa Decided the Water Was Meant for Her.
Car wash day has turned into a full-blown water party in the driveway. Frank leans in with a blue sponge, scrubbing the suds off the side of their old silver sedan, while Marion aims the garden hose and laughs as a bright arc of water splashes everywhere. Cocoa has launched herself up on her hind legs right into the spray, front paws flailing, ears flying, mouth wide open as she tries to catch the stream. Her chocolate curls glisten with droplets. A blue bucket of soapy water sits on the wet concrete, and potted plants, a garage door, and a green hedge round out the scene.
Many dogs love chasing water from a hose, and on a warm day it can be a fun way to cool off and burn energy. A little caution keeps the fun safe. Car soaps, waxes, and cleaning products are not meant for pets, so keep dogs out of the bucket and away from soapy puddles. Dogs that gulp water while biting at a hose spray can swallow a lot very quickly, which can be dangerous, so keep play sessions short and the pressure gentle. Poodles have a dense coat that holds water, so a towel-off and brushing afterward helps prevent mats and skin irritation. Antifreeze or other car fluids on the driveway should be cleaned up immediately, since they are highly toxic to pets.
The car might come out sparkling, but the true highlight of the day is a soaked, overjoyed Poodle. Frank and Marion seem to agree.
